Facebook/Meta Pixel Setup Guide

Once you have finished reading this guide, you will be able to install and set up a meta pixel on your website.

If you have already created a pixel and need to find out how to install it on your website, please skip to step 2.

Before you start, you will need the following:

  • A website for your Business
  • A Facebook/Meta Business Manager
  • Be able to update your website’s code

1. How to create a Pixel from scratch

  1. Log on to your Meta/Facebook Business Manager
  2. In the menu, select the all tools option which will open another menu. From there, choose the events manager option.
  3. Click the green plus icon labelled connect data sources and select web
  4. Name your pixel (it can be as simple as [Your Companies Name] pixel) and click create pixel
  5. When prompted, enter your website URL to see if there are any easy set-up options.
  6. Click Continue

If any easy set-up options are available, choose the one relevant to you and follow the steps provided. If there aren’t any, or it doesn’t seem to be working, please continue to read to find the manual method.

2. How to install the Pixel on your website

There are multiple ways of installing your pixel on your website. Please choose which method suits you to see the set-up instructions.

  1. Go to your events manager
  2. In the menu, click the data source option
  3. Now choose the pixel you want to set up on your website and click continue pixel setup.
  4. Select Meta Pixel and click Connect.
  5. Select Install code manually.
  6. Copy the pixel base code.
  7. Find the header of your website or locate the header template in your CMS or web platform. (If using WordPress a plugin can be installed to make editing the header code easier)
  8. Paste the base code at the bottom of the header section, just above the closing head tag.

  1. Once the code is installed in the header section ,click Continue.
  2. This step is optional: Switch on Automatic advanced matching and verify the customer information that you want to send.
  3. Click Continue.
  4. Add events you would like tracked using the event setup tool.

    Using the event setup tool will allow you to add events and parameters without additional coding. To use it simply click open event setup tool and follow the on-screen instructions.

  5. Click done.

  2. In the menu, click the data source option
  3. Now choose the pixel you want to set up on your website and click continue pixel set up.
  4. Click the use a partner option
  5. Select the relevant partner from the list.
  6. You will then be guided with on-screen setup instructions.

If you are not responsible for editing the code on your website, use this method to email the meta pixel setup instructions to the person responsible.

  1. Go to your events manager
  2. In the menu, click the data source option
  3. Now choose the pixel you want to set up on your website and click continue pixel set up.
  4. Click the email instructions option
  5. Enter the email address of the recipient and click send.

WELL DONE! You have completed the guide and should now have a pixel installed on your website.
